Night Rock Climbing in Winter

Outing Coordinator:  Greg Ouellette

Date & Time: January 21st, 2007 (Sunday). Meet @ 5PM for 3 hours of climbing.

Start: 25 NW St. Helen’s Place Bend (near downtown Bend, Call Greg for directions).

Distance / Grade: Half mile hike (in & out) / 5.5 to 5.9 Rock climbing (Top Roping of higher grades).

Outing Description: Night climbing on “Rope De Dope” block at Smith Rock State Park. This is a moonless night and if clear, the Milky Way will be visible. We will lead 5.6 climbs on the east side of the rock and top rope the more difficult climbs.

Equipment/Clothing needs: Warm weather clothes, heat packs, hooded down jacket (optional). Hot drinks in thermos. Headlamp and spare batteries, camera with flash. I have enough gear for 4 to 6 people to climb at a time. Check with Greg about any gear questions.

Skills, Experience and Fitness Level Needed: Must have some experience rock climbing up to at least a 5.7 grade. Able to tolerate cold without whining.
